The Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions has obtained a warrant of arrest for an immigration officer stationed at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport following his absence in court during a human-trafficking case.

According to the prosecution, the suspect, John Poriot, was scheduled to appear before the Kahawa Law Courts on Tuesday but did not arrive, leading the court to issue a warrant for his apprehension.

In a statement released through its official X platform, the prosecution mentioned it had approached the court to compel the suspect to appear and respond to the charges.

“The Director of Public Prosecutions has secured a warrant of arrest against an immigration officer based at JKIA after he failed to appear in court for plea-taking,” the statement partially stated.

The officer is set to face charges under the Counter-Trafficking in Persons Act for allegedly enabling the illegal departure of two Kenyan nationals from the country for exploitative purposes.

Prosecutors allege that on October 3, 2024, at JKIA within Embakasi Sub-County, the accused, alongside others who have not been formally charged, trafficked two individuals by offering them employment opportunities abroad.

“It is alleged that on 3rd October 2024 at JKIA, the officer jointly with others not before court trafficked Evans Kipyegon and Isaac Kipruto by deceiving them with promises of employment in the Kingdom of Thailand,” the prosecution stated.

The accused is also confronting a second charge under the Proceeds of Crime and Anti-Money Laundering Act for allegedly possessing Ksh. 11,087 believed to be illicit gains.

Presiding magistrate Gideon Kiage issued the arrest warrant and instructed that the case be mentioned on April 8, 2026.

Authorities are now tasked with apprehending the suspect to ensure his presence in court to answer to the allegations.
