Illicit Drugs Menace Grips Kisii County

Security agencies in Kisii County have launched a major crackdown on a drug smuggling syndicate operating in local urban centers, threatening the social fabric of the community. Kisii County Police Commander Ronald Kirui warned that drug abuse among youth has serious consequences, including violence, school dropouts, domestic abuse, and mental health issues.

Kirui emphasized that the drug problem is a societal issue, not just a criminal one, and urged collective action involving police, journalists, and the community. The police reported confiscating over 1,000 liters of illegal brews in a single week, reflecting the depth of the problem.

He called on the media to play a proactive role, educating the public about drug dangers and exposing illegal operations while upholding ethical journalism and protecting victims, especially children and vulnerable groups. Kirui pledged the police’s support in building a drug-free Kisii County and stressed cooperation between law enforcement and journalists to foster a safer, healthier society.
