Five-Minute Gang Raid Destroys Sh200M in Nyandarua County
On June 25, 2025, during demonstrations marking the first anniversary of the 2024 Gen Z anti-Finance Bill protests, a coordinated gang raid in Ol Kalou, Nyandarua County, destroyed government property valued at over Sh200 million.
The raid, lasting less than 10 minutes, saw:
26 government vehicles and 18 motorcycles vandalized and set ablaze.
Several government offices, including the Assistant County Commissioner’s office and Sub-County Education Department, torched.
Youth empowerment equipment (motorcycles, salon kits, agricultural tools) destroyed.
Over 1,000 national ID cards and biometric kits at the National Registration Bureau damaged.
CCTV footage indicated about 10 gang members, acting with precision and prior reconnaissance, exploiting police distraction caused by a shooting during the protests. Authorities believe a man in a white jacket coordinated the raid.
Law enforcement response:
11 suspects arrested following an intelligence-led operation in Huruma and Vatican Estates.
Criminal investigation ongoing to recover stolen items and prosecute perpetrators.
Impact:
The destruction paralyzed county operations and disrupted education administration.
Governor Kiarie Badilisha warned of severe impacts on service delivery and the need to revise budgets to replace lost assets.
