Homa Bay County has emerged as the best-performing county in healthcare, according to a 2024 survey conducted by Infotrak, securing a score of 53 percent. Governor Gladys Wanga’s administration propelled the county from second place in 2023 to first, despite a slight drop from the previous year’s 57 percent score. The survey, released on Tuesday, assessed the effectiveness of county governments in providing quality health services, including access to medical care, availability of well-equipped facilities, personnel, and essential medicines.

Murang’a County, led by Governor Irungu Kang’ata, was the closest competitor in the health sector, achieving 52 percent and moving up from eighth place in 2023. Murang’a also shared the top spot in agriculture alongside Trans Nzoia County, while Homa Bay and Elgeyo Marakwet tied for third place with a score of 50 percent. The survey covered all 47 counties in Kenya and was based on responses from 39,795 residents collected between October and December 2024 through Computer-Assisted Telephone Interviews (CATI). Respondents rated county performance on a 1–10 scale across key indicators, with the final scores representing an average of performance metrics including disease prevention, sanitation, public health awareness, and service accessibility.

The recognition of Homa Bay’s healthcare performance highlights the county government’s commitment to improving residents’ well-being. The administration has invested in medical infrastructure, enhanced maternal care, and expanded access to essential health services. Moving forward, the county plans to continue strengthening health systems, ensuring that residents benefit from affordable and quality medical services while setting a benchmark for other counties in public health management.
