Six people have lost their lives after a small aircraft they were traveling in made an emergency landing in Chepkiep, Mosop Constituency, Nandi County, before bursting into flames Saturday afternoon.

Eyewitnesses described a harrowing scene, with some stating the aircraft was seen struggling mid-air, appearing to lose altitude rapidly, before it came down hard in the Chepkiep area around 4:45 PM.

Moments after impact, the wreckage erupted in intense flames, making immediate rescue extremely difficult.

Local residents and first responders rushed to the site, but early reports indicate all six occupants perished in the crash. The identities of those on board have not yet been officially released.

Nandi County Police Commander Samuel Mukuusi confirmed the incident and stated that rescue and recovery efforts are actively underway.

Authorities have moved quickly to secure the crash site as investigations begin into the cause of the emergency landing and fire.
