HOMA BAY, Kenya — In preparation for the 62nd Mashujaa Day celebrations on October 20, the Kenya Kwanza government is accelerating completion of major development projects in Homa Bay County. Key initiatives include the Homa Bay Affordable Housing Project, the Kabunde Airstrip expansion, and the Mbita Ring Road, all aimed at boosting regional infrastructure, economic growth, and community well-being ahead of the national festivities.

Interior and National Administration PS Raymond Omollo confirmed that the first phase of the 110-unit Homa Bay Affordable Housing Project, launched in 2023, is set for occupancy by March 2025. The project has already created hundreds of jobs for local workers, contributing to regional economic growth under the Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda (BETA). Meanwhile, the Kabunde Airstrip is being upgraded with extended runways and modern tarmac to improve mobility and attract investment, while the 19.3-kilometer Mbita Ring Road is expected to ease transportation, support trade, and revitalize the local fishing industry.

Officials say the accelerated timelines underscore the government’s commitment to ensuring that Homa Bay is ready to host a historic Mashujaa Day. Beyond the immediate celebrations, the infrastructure projects are expected to leave lasting benefits for residents by enhancing housing, connectivity, and access to services, positioning Homa Bay as a model for regional development in Kenya.
