Governor Ottichilo Signs Vihiga County Budget for 2025/26, Pledges to Clear Pending Bills

Vihiga County Governor Wilber Ottichilo has officially signed the KSh 2025/26 budget, unveiling plans to settle a backlog of pending bills while driving key development initiatives across the county. The budget emphasizes fiscal discipline, service delivery, and continued investment in infrastructure, health, education, and social welfare programs.

Speaking at the signing ceremony, Governor Ottichilo highlighted that clearing pending obligations to contractors, suppliers, and service providers is a top priority for the new financial year. We are committed to ensuring that those who have served the county faithfully are remunerated in full, while also maintaining a sustainable financial path for Vihiga’s growth, he said. The governor added that the budget also provides for strategic projects aimed at boosting local employment, improving healthcare access, and expanding educational opportunities.

The county assembly had earlier approved the budget following consultations with various stakeholders, including civic groups, business leaders, and community representatives. County officials said the allocation reflects both recurrent and development expenditure, balancing day-to-day operational needs with long-term infrastructure and social investments. Analysts note that settling pending bills will improve the county’s financial credibility and strengthen partnerships with contractors and service providers.

Residents and local business leaders have welcomed the move, describing it as a step toward enhanced accountability and transparency in county governance. With the budget now in effect, Vihiga County is set to pursue its development agenda while addressing financial liabilities that have accumulated over previous fiscal years, signaling a renewed focus on efficiency and community-centered growth.
