Trans Nzoia Governor Cracks Down on Substandard County Projects

Trans Nzoia Governor George Natembeya has issued a stern warning to contractors working on county projects, emphasizing the need for honesty, professionalism, and high-quality workmanship. Speaking at the National Museums of Kenya in Kitale during a project appraisal meeting, the governor made it clear that substandard work and uninspected projects will no longer be tolerated and that non-compliant contractors risk being blacklisted from future county contracts.

Accompanied by County Secretary Truphosa Amere and senior officials, Natembeya addressed concerns raised by contractors and reiterated the administration’s commitment to completing impactful projects. He noted that delays in road construction and other infrastructure had slowed service delivery and stressed that the county expects full adherence to contractual obligations to ensure timely completion of ongoing works.

In a move to improve accountability and efficiency, the governor announced the formation of a committee to oversee periodic payment mechanisms for contractors. He pledged to prioritize the settlement of genuine pending bills, revealing that KSh 180 million of the KSh 398 million inherited from the previous administration has already been cleared. Natembeya further called for collective responsibility in honoring tax obligations, linking compliance to the successful execution of county projects.

The governor’s directive underscores his administration’s drive to enhance integrity in public works and ensure that residents benefit from well-executed, durable infrastructure. Officials and contractors have been urged to cooperate fully to maintain standards, safeguard public resources, and contribute to the county’s sustainable development agenda.
