Governor Kilonzo Seeks National Government Intervention to Curb Rampant School Fires
Makueni Governor Mutula Kilonzo Jr. has called for urgent intervention from the national government to address a spate of mysterious fires deliberately set in schools across the county. The Governor’s appeal follows a recent wave of arson attacks that have destroyed property worth millions of shillings and severely disrupted learning. He expressed deep concern over the criminal trend, which he stated is threatening to paralyze the education sector in the region.

The Governor revealed that the county has recorded numerous incidents where dormitories and classrooms have been torched, often at night. While the motives are still under investigation, preliminary reports suggest the fires may be linked to student unrest or external criminal elements. Governor Mutula emphasized that the county government lacks the necessary investigative and forensic capacity to handle the crisis alone and requires the expertise of national law enforcement agencies.

In his appeal, Governor Mutula specifically requested the deployment of officers from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) to launch a thorough probe and identify the perpetrators and masterminds behind the arson. He urged for heightened security patrols around educational institutions, especially during the night. The Governor’s call underscores the growing urgency of the situation, as parents, teachers, and students await decisive action from the state to secure schools and end the destructive wave of fires.
