Government vows to reign on Garissa-town criminals

The government has pledged decisive action against criminals reportedly terrorising Garissa town, following growing public outcry over rising insecurity in the area. County Commissioner Mohamed Mwabudzo said the security apparatus is mobilised to restore law and order and protect residents who have lived in fear of muggings, robberies and other criminal activity.
Mwabudzo noted that a dedicated security task‑force will be deployed to target perpetrators and carry out ongoing operations in known trouble spots across Garissa town. He urged citizens to cooperate by sharing information about criminals, warning that those found aiding unlawful behaviour will face the full force of the law. The pledge comes after a series of recent arrests of contraband traders and crackdowns on illicit activities in the county.
Residents and community leaders welcomed the announcement, expressing relief that authorities are finally taking firm steps after years of perceived neglect. Some locals, however, cautioned that past promises have often proven empty — stressing that consistent, transparent follow‑through will be essential to rebuild public trust in security institutions.
