Meru County Commissioner Jacob Ouma has reiterated the government’s commitment to safeguarding lives and property in the county. Speaking at the two-day Peoples Dialogue Festival held at Meru National Polytechnic, Ouma condemned recent incidents of looting and destruction in the region, stressing that the primary role of security agencies is to maintain law and order.
While acknowledging that peaceful protests are a constitutional right, Ouma warned that criminal elements exploiting demonstrations to commit theft or vandalism will face strict consequences. The remarks followed the torching of a supermarket in Makutano during the recent Saba Saba unrest.
Investigations into the incidents are already underway, and Ouma assured residents that those found guilty will be held accountable, with no exceptions. He emphasized that the government remains on high alert and will deal firmly with anyone engaging in criminal acts under the guise of protests.
This stance underscores the county administration’s dedication to ensuring safety, protecting businesses, and upholding the rule of law in Meru.
