Nakuru — Ahead of the full roll‑out of the new junior secondary model, the government has pledged to construct 16,000 classrooms to accommodate Grade 9 learners starting 2025. The initiative, led by Basic Education Principal Secretary Belio Kipsang, will be funded with KSh 3.9 billion. In Nakuru alone, 766 classrooms are planned at a cost of KSh 770 million. The infrastructure push is part of preparations for shifting to the updated school structure under the national Competency‑Based Education (CBE) system. Kipsang further said the state will support new classrooms through a mix of government funding and contributions from lawmakers via the NG-CDF kitty. He also encouraged youth to consider Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) programmes, noting that even learners with lower KCSE grades may access tertiary education through TVET pathways.
