Government development projects in Kericho County progressing steadily

Kericho County is witnessing remarkable strides in government-led development, with a series of transformative infrastructure initiatives advancing across the region. Speaking during Mashujaa Day celebrations at Sosiot Grounds in Belgut Sub-County, Acting County Commissioner Dr. Kibe Maguta highlighted the progress of flagship projects, including the Majengo Talai Affordable Housing Programme, several Economic Stimulus Programme (ESP) markets, and key road upgrading works. According to Dr. Maguta, the Majengo Talai project alone, valued at over Sh77.8 million, is 40 percent complete and set to deliver 324 modern housing units while creating numerous employment opportunities for local youth.

The government’s commitment to improving economic and social infrastructure is evident across multiple sectors. The Economic Stimulus Programme markets in Belgut, Bureti, Kipkelion East, and Fort Tenan have all recorded substantial completion rates, ranging from 45 to 77 percent, promising modern trading spaces that will empower small-scale traders and strengthen local economies. Meanwhile, road projects such as the Kapsuser–Sosiot–Kisolu upgrade, at 75 percent completion, and the Cheborge Junction-Kipwasituiya Market Road, in early stages at six percent, are set to enhance accessibility, boost agricultural productivity, and open up rural areas to commerce, education, and healthcare facilities.

Looking ahead, Dr. Maguta expressed confidence that the county’s development trajectory aligns with the Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda (BETA), with initiatives like the Sh3 billion Chebirirbei Bay Project expected to stimulate trade, tourism, and investment. He emphasized that these projects go beyond physical infrastructure, highlighting their role in creating sustainable livelihoods, modern urban spaces, and inclusive growth. Residents and local stakeholders have welcomed the progress, viewing the ongoing projects as tangible evidence of government dedication to improving living standards and accelerating regional economic growth.
