Fuel Prices Drop as Global Crude Stabilizes Below $75/Barrel

by KenyaPolls

Kenya’s super petrol price fell to Ksh172.87 per litre in June 2024—the lowest in 18 months—following a sustained drop in global crude oil prices. The Energy and Petroleum Regulatory Authority (EPRA) cited Brent crude averaging $72/barrel and a stable shilling as key factors. Diesel dropped to Ksh163.50, offering relief to transporters and farmers. The lower fuel costs are expected to ease inflation and reduce logistics expenses for businesses. However, analysts warn that Middle East tensions and OPEC+ supply cuts could reverse gains in Q3. The government has maintained the petroleum development levy at Ksh5.40/litre to fund road projects, drawing criticism from consumer groups.
