The Football Kenya Federation (FKF) has signed a multi-million shilling deal with a European tech provider to implement an AI-powered camera system for offside calls and Video Assistant Referee (VAR) services in the FKF Premier League. The system uses 12 dedicated cameras to track players’ limbs and the ball, generating automatic offside alerts in seconds. This aims to reduce controversial decisions. This investment ends the era of debatable linesman calls. We are bringing world-class officiating technology home, said FKF CEO Barry Otieno. The system will be installed at all top-tier venues starting with the 2024/2025 season.
