NACADA Seizes 4,000 Litres of Chang’aa in Mukuru Settlements

The National Authority for the Campaign Against Alcohol and Drug Abuse (NACADA) seized 4,000 litres of chang’aa during a 3:00 a.m. raid in Mukuru kwa Reuben and Mukuru kwa Njenga settlements, Nairobi. The operation was conducted jointly with the police following weeks of intelligence gathering on illicit distilling and distribution networks.

Although the main distillery was inactive at the time, authorities discovered 14 sacks of chang’aa packaged in nylon, which violates NEMA regulations. No arrests were made, but the seized alcohol was transferred to Jogoo Road Police Station for analysis.

NACADA CEO Anthony Omerikwa stated that the operation is part of the government’s 100-day Rapid Results Initiative (RRI) to curb illicit alcohol and drug abuse, aiming to disrupt supply chains and protect vulnerable communities.
