Family Meeting Turns Fatal: Man Dies Following Dispute in Migori

A suspect remains at large after his brother-in-law lost his life following an attack during a family meeting aimed at resolving domestic issues at a home in Uriri, Migori County.

Police reported that the deceased passed away at a medical facility in Eldoret on March 23 after sustaining severe head injuries during the incident in Dago village.

The victim had visited his in-laws to address disagreements involving his sister and her husband when the attack occurred.

According to police, toward the end of the meeting, an argument broke out, resulting in the man being injured with a crude weapon.

He sustained serious head injuries and was rushed to the hospital, where he later died while receiving treatment, police added.

His sister also suffered injuries but was reported to be out of danger, police said.

The body was moved to the mortuary pending an autopsy and other formalities.

Authorities stated they were searching for the suspected assailant for questioning and possible legal action. Such incidents have reportedly been increasing in villages, prompting community awareness efforts.

Elsewhere, tragedy struck a family in Kakamega County when a one-and-a-half-year-old girl was killed after being caught between two fighting bulls in Eshimuli Village, Eluche Sub-Location.

Police said the bulls wandered into the area where the toddler was before the incident.

The child had no visible injuries, and her body was taken to St. Mary’s Mission Hospital Mortuary for preservation, pending an autopsy.

A 52-year-old man also died after being struck by lightning during heavy rains in Makueni County.

The incident occurred on March 23, 2026, at around 4:30 p.m. in Kathatu Village, Kilili Location, Nzauri Sub-County.

Authorities said the deceased, identified as Abednego Dunda Mainga, was diverting runoff water to his pond when he was struck, causing immediate death.

Such incidents have been reported more frequently, with authorities urging residents to exercise caution and avoid sheltering under trees.

There are also calls for installing protective devices to help reduce the risk of lightning strikes.
