Empowering Hospital Management Committees for Improved Healthcare Governance

by KenyaPolls

Tharaka Nithi County has kicked off a three-day induction program aimed at empowering Hospital Management Committees (HMCs) across the region. The launch, officiated by the County Executive Committee Member (CECM) for Public Health, Medical Services, and ICT, Dr. Gichuyia Nthuraku, seeks to enhance governance, transparency, and accountability within county health facilities. The initiative positions HMCs as key players in improving service delivery and ensuring that residents receive quality healthcare.

The training program will equip committee members with the skills to make informed decisions, oversee operations, and collaborate effectively with health stakeholders. By strengthening the capacity of HMCs, the county aims to create a more responsive and efficient healthcare system. Participants will engage in modules covering policy oversight, financial management, stakeholder engagement, and ethical governance, all critical for ensuring health facilities meet the needs of the community.

County officials emphasized that well-trained HMCs will help close gaps in health service delivery and foster public trust in the healthcare system. Looking forward, Tharaka Nithi plans to complement this initiative with strategic interventions, including the rollout of telemedicine services and expanded preventive healthcare programs. The program underscores the county’s commitment to building a robust and inclusive health system, leaving no resident behind.
