In one of the biggest shocks of the World Athletics Championships, legendary Kenyan marathoner Eliud Kipchoge failed to finish the men’s marathon in Budapest. The five-time world champion and two-time Olympic gold medalist, who was chasing an unprecedented sixth world title, dropped out of the race around the 30km mark. The hot and humid conditions in Budapest took a heavy toll on the field, and even Kipchoge’s legendary endurance could not withstand the challenge. His withdrawal was a rare sight in his illustrious career and opened the door for his compatriot, Victor Kiplangat, to win a surprise gold medal for Kenya. Kipchoge later stated that he was not feeling well and made the decision to drop out to protect his body, a move that was met with understanding from the global athletics community.
