EACC summons Kisumu City Manager over alleged offences

by KenyaPolls

The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) has directed Kisumu County City Manager Michael Abala Wanga to appear at its Integrity Centre headquarters in Nairobi. The summons follows the Director of Public Prosecutions’ (DPP) concurrence to prefer charges against him.

EACC CEO Abdi Mohamud said the case involves allegations of using academic certificates of questionable authenticity, which may have influenced his appointment. Additional allegations include facilitating travel and allowances in July 2024 for a non-staff member to Lagos, Nigeria, using documents that falsely represented the individual as a county employee.
Abala is expected to face multiple charges, including:
Forgery
Fraudulent acquisition of public property
Uttering false documents
Presentation of forged certificates
These are alleged violations under the Penal Code, Anti-Corruption and Economic Crimes Act, and the Kenya National Examinations Council Act.
The EACC has urged Wanga to comply with the summons and present himself for processing to proceed with the legal process.
