EACC Recovers Kenya Railways Land Valued at KSh 50 Million in Mombasa

The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) has successfully reclaimed land belonging to Kenya Railways in Mombasa, estimated to be worth KSh 50 million. The recovery follows investigations into illegal occupation and attempted sale of public property, with officials highlighting the importance of safeguarding national assets from encroachment and fraudulent activities.

According to EACC, the land in question, located near Mombasa’s port area, had been unlawfully occupied by private individuals and companies seeking to profit from its strategic location. The commission said swift action was necessary to prevent misuse of state property and to reinforce public confidence in governance. Kenya Railways officials welcomed the move, noting that the land will now be secured for future infrastructure projects, including transport and logistics expansion along the coast.

The operation has drawn praise from local residents and civic leaders, who commended the government for taking decisive steps against land-related corruption. Legal experts emphasized that continuous monitoring of public lands is crucial to prevent similar incidents, especially in urban areas where property disputes are common. EACC confirmed that further investigations are ongoing to identify any accomplices and to ensure accountability for those involved in the illegal occupation of state land.
