Doctors Save Worker After Steel Rods Pierce Pelvis

by KenyaPolls

A routine workday at a construction site turned into a near-fatal tragedy for a young Kenyan man when two steel rods pierced through his body from back to front.
The unidentified worker was transported to Kenyatta National Hospital in excruciating pain after the steel rebar rods penetrated his pelvis, forcing medical professionals to race against time to preserve his life.
Upon arrival, the extent of his injuries was so grave that his survival appeared doubtful.
The rods resulted in a fractured pelvis and extensive soft tissue damage, which doctors characterized as an extremely critical trauma situation. However, amidst the critical condition, a fortunate development occurred: the steel avoided major blood vessels and essential organs.
“Remarkably, despite the severity of the injuries, major blood vessels and other crucial pelvic organs were barely spared,” the hospital noted in a release.

Within the operating room, groups of surgeons, anesthesiologists, trauma specialists, nurses, and critical care staff collaborated during a tense and intricate procedure to extract the rods without causing lethal hemorrhaging or additional harm.
“The emergency procedure required rapid coordination, sophisticated surgical skills, and perfect teamwork among various specialist teams,” the hospital explained.
The surgical team was led by Dr. Victor Bargoria, with an anesthesia team directed by Dr. Muchiri P.V., assisted by orthopedic and trauma specialists committed to offering the young man another opportunity at survival.
Over several hours, the healthcare providers meticulously addressed the complex injuries from the steel rods, ultimately managing to remove them and stabilize the patient.
Currently, the young man is alive, stable, and recuperating under intensive monitoring at KNHa survival tale that physicians note might have concluded differently.
