DIG Lagat Elevates Kibiko Police Post to Full Police Station in Kajiado

Deputy Inspector General of Police Eliud Lagat has upgraded the Kibiko Police Post in Kajiado West to a fully established police station, boosting security services for thousands of residents who previously relied on Magadi Police Station nearly 100 kilometres away.

Kibiko was among the 92 new police stations recently gazetted by Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja under the National Police Service Act. The designation is expected to significantly ease access to policing services for the rapidly growing Kibiko community on the outskirts of Ngong town.

DIG Lagat made the announcement during an impromptu inspection tour of Rongai Police Station and the Kibiko facility, part of an ongoing nationwide initiative to review police welfare, assess operational readiness, and strengthen service delivery.

I have elevated the police post to a full police station in line with the gazette notice by the Inspector-General, Lagat said, adding that more officers will be deployed following requests from area residents.

The upgraded station will be headed by an officer of the rank of Chief Inspector and staffed with about 50 officers. Previously, only a handful of officers were available—an inadequate number given the increasing population and workload in the area.

With the elevation, residents will no longer need to travel long distances to Magadi to access essential services. The station will also host officers from specialized units such as the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), enhancing response to crime and strengthening investigations.

During the tour in Rongai, Lagat inspected key operational areas including the Report Office, Gender and Children’s Office, Anti-Crime Unit, DCI Offices, Traffic Office, and the Police Lines. He praised officers for their professionalism, high morale, and the clean maintenance of their facilities.

The DIG reaffirmed the Inspector-General’s commitment to improving police welfare and transforming stations into centres of excellence for public service. He noted that more police stations will be gazetted across the country to enhance efficiency and service delivery.

Lagat also raised concerns over security issues in the Bangladesh area of Rongai and called for increased surveillance, intelligence-sharing, and coordinated security efforts. He further urged officers—particularly those in the Traffic Department—to uphold integrity and transparency to strengthen public trust.

Lagat was accompanied by several senior officials including Director of Logistics Peter Ndung’u, Director of Operations Adamson Bungei, Director of Gender and Child Protection Dolly Badia, and Silas Andiema from the Directorate of Personnel.
