Parents are bracing for a heavier financial burden as the Ruto administration reduces Free Day Secondary Education (FDSE) capitation nearly by half.
Under the new policy, FDSE funding per student has dropped from Ksh 22,244 to Ksh 12,870. Consequently, parents will now shoulder significantly higher fees:
National Schools: Ksh 53,554 per student
Extra-County & County Schools: Ksh 40,535 per student
This reduction comes as many families are already struggling with the rising cost of living. Education advocates have warned that the cut may place undue pressure on households and hinder access to quality education for some students.
