Deadly Ol Kalou Protest Leaves 35 Govt Vehicles, 11 Motorcycles Torched
A protest in Ol Kalou town, Nyandarua County, turned deadly and destructive, resulting in one fatality and the torching of 35 government vehicles and 11 motorcycles. The demonstration, which began as a peaceful procession over a local dispute, rapidly escalated into violent clashes between youths and police, leading to widespread vandalism and arson.

The mob, armed with crude weapons, breached the gates of several government compounds, including the county commissioner’s office and the police station. They set fire to a fleet of vehicles belonging to the National Police Service, the National Government Administration, and other departments, causing damage estimated in the hundreds of millions of shillings. The body of one male victim was discovered near the scene of the riots.

Police eventually managed to disperse the crowds using teargas, but the town was left counting immense losses. The County Commissioner has announced a dusk-to-dawn curfew to restore order and prevent further violence. A major investigation has been launched to identify the organizers and participants of the riot, with security agencies combing through footage to make arrests.
