The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has refuted assertions that one of its officers was discovered deceased at the agency’s Kiambu Road headquarters last week.
During a statement issued on Monday, February 23, the DCI confirmed that the officer, based at DCI Kajiado North Sub-County, died on Saturday, February 21, as a result of an incident at his residence in Ngong.
The DCI clarified that contrary to previous social media accounts, the officer was discovered unconscious in his kitchen garden in Ngong by a domestic worker from a neighboring residence.
The neighbor subsequently alerted authorities, with the DCI countering claims that
According to the DCI, “Preliminary scene documentation conducted by Crime Scene Investigation (CSI) officers, working with Kenya Power and Lighting Company (KPLC) staff, detected a live electrical wire buried in the garden soil, which is suspected to have electrocuted him while he was tilling the land.”
The DCI added, “As investigations proceed, we respectfully request that the public avoid speculation and grant the family the privacy and dignity they require during this period of profound loss.”
Investigative authorities believe the officer was electrocuted by a live electrical wire concealed in the garden soil while cultivating his land. They reported that the officer was declared deceased at the Ngong Level IV hospital.
The occurrence was subsequently reported to the Ngong Police Station. Officials have commenced an investigation to establish the precise cause of his death.
The DCI family expressed, “We offer our deepest condolences to the family, friends, and loved ones of Corporal Muiruri. We share in your sorrow for the passing of a cherished son, colleague, and devoted officer. May God provide you with strength, solace, and abundant grace to sustain you through this difficult time.”
This clarification followed reports of another fatality in Kariobangi North on Saturday, where a man died after being electrocuted while taking down garments from a clothesline.
The man was subsequently found by his neighbors, who transported him to Jumuia Hospital in Huruma, where medical professionals confirmed his death.
A neighbor reported the incident to Kariobangi North Police Station. The deceased’s body was transported to the City Mortuary, awaiting post-mortem examination.
As stated in a police report, “Officers from this command promptly responded to the primary location and were directed to the hospital, where they located the deceased’s body on a hospital bed showing no external injuries.”
