DCI Busts Fake Police Officer in Kirinyaga
Detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) in Kirinyaga have arrested a man who has been impersonating a police officer to extort money from members of the public. The suspect was apprehended following reports from residents about a individual in police uniform who would stop motorists and pedestrians to demand bribes. Upon his arrest, the DCI recovered a complete fake police uniform, including a forged service ID, from the suspect.
According to the police, the impersonator had been using the guise of a law enforcer to intimidate and illegally collect money from unsuspecting citizens. A preliminary investigation suggests he had been operating for some time before a vigilant resident grew suspicious and alerted the real authorities. The suspect is currently in custody and is being processed for arraignment in court.
The DCI has commended the public for their vigilance and urged citizens to always ask for official identification when approached by someone claiming to be a police officer. The arrest serves as a warning to other fraudsters and is expected to bring relief to residents who had fallen victim to the impersonation scam.
