DCI Arrests 2 Nyamira Men Filmed Beating, Burning Suspected Chicken Thief
Detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) have arrested two men in Nyamira County captured on video brutally assaulting and setting fire to a man accused of stealing chickens. The viral video showed a mob subjecting the suspect to a severe beating before dousing him with a flammable liquid and setting him alight. The victim sustained life-threatening burns and is currently receiving treatment in a hospital.
The DCI acted swiftly to identify and apprehend the primary suspects seen in the graphic footage, which sparked nationwide outrage. The two individuals are currently in custody and are expected to be charged with attempted murder. Police have condemned the act of mob justice, reiterating that citizens have no right to take the law into their own hands, no matter the alleged crime.
The incident has reignited public debate on the prevalence of mob lynching in Kenya. Authorities are pursuing other individuals involved in the attack and have urged the public to always hand over suspects to the police for lawful prosecution. The DCI has warned that those participating in such acts of violence will face the full force of the law.
