A new crowdfunding platform, PaaKeja, is specifically designed to finance the renovation of dilapidated community sports grounds. Using satellite imagery and verified local champions, the platform allows Kenyans at home and abroad to contribute towards projects like levelling pitches, installing goalposts, or building basic changing rooms. The first successful project in Kayole saw a rubbish dump transformed into a usable football pitch in six weeks. It’s tech-facilitated harambee for sports infrastructure, said platform founder Linda Kageni.
