Bomet County Seeks to Bring Traffic Order to Municipality
The Bomet County government has launched a new initiative to restore order and streamline the often chaotic traffic flow within Bomet municipality. The plan, developed in collaboration with the National Police Service, aims to address persistent issues of congestion, illegal parking, and unruly behavior by public service vehicle operators. The goal is to create a safer and more efficient transportation system for residents and visitors.
Key measures include the clear designation of specific pick-up and drop-off zones for matatus, the creation of designated parking areas, and a crackdown on vehicles that obstruct major roads and pedestrian walkways. County enforcement officers will work alongside traffic police to ensure compliance with the new regulations. The initiative also involves public sensitization campaigns to educate drivers and the public on the new traffic flow plans.
County Commissioner Dr. Ahmed Omar affirmed the national government’s support for the initiative, emphasizing that improved traffic management is essential for public safety and economic growth. He warned that those who flout the new rules will face legal penalties. The successful implementation of this plan is expected to reduce travel time, enhance the aesthetic of the town, and significantly improve the overall experience for all road users in Bomet municipality.
