Nairobi County unveiled the Jericho Incubation Hub, a pioneering technology incubator program located in Harambee Ward, Makadara Sub-County. The hub is designed to equip young people with essential digital skills, entrepreneurship training, and startup incubation support, making technology accessible at the grassroots level. County Executive Committee Member for Innovation and Digital Economy, Mike Gumo, emphasized that the incubator is not just an ICT facility but a lifeline for youth, enabling them to build sustainable livelihoods through innovation.
The incubator program provides workspace, mentorship, and access to digital tools for startups and SMEs. It focuses on areas such as software development, e-commerce, fintech, and creative industries, helping entrepreneurs transform ideas into viable businesses. By embedding incubation into community development, Nairobi County aims to reduce barriers such as limited access to capital, weak networks, and lack of technical expertise.
Entrepreneurs and youth have welcomed the initiative, noting that it addresses critical challenges in Nairobi’s innovation ecosystem. Analysts argue that the Jericho Incubation Hub complements earlier county initiatives such as the Business Digital Transformation Program (April 2025) and the Digital Training Programs (September 2025), creating a comprehensive support framework for startups. The program also aligns with Kenya’s Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda (BETA), which prioritizes innovation and SME empowerment.
Looking ahead, Nairobi County plans to replicate the incubator model across other wards, integrating AI-powered learning platforms, green financing tools, and partnerships with global tech firms. Officials believe that by embedding incubation into local communities, Nairobi can accelerate job creation, attract investment, and reinforce its role as East Africa’s innovation hub.
