Nairobi County Launches Jericho Incubation Hub to Empower Youth and Drive Digital Inclusion
The Nairobi County Government has officially inaugurated the Jericho Creative and Digital Incubation Hub, a state-of-the-art facility aimed at empowering young entrepreneurs and accelerating digital inclusion in the city. Governor Johnson Sakaja presided over the launch, highlighting the hub’s role as a cornerstone of his administration’s plan to tackle youth unemployment by providing a physical space for innovation, skills development, and enterprise growth. The facility, located in the heart of Eastlands, is equipped with high-speed internet, modern co-working spaces, and specialized labs for coding, digital content creation, and robotics.

The hub is designed to serve as a comprehensive ecosystem for youth development, offering a 12-month incubation program that includes intensive training in high-demand digital skills such as software development, data science, and digital marketing. Beyond technical training, participants will receive mentorship from established tech leaders, assistance with business registration, and access to a seed funding network of angel investors and venture capital firms. We are moving beyond rhetoric to tangible investment in our greatest asset—our youth. The Jericho Hub is not just a building; it is a factory for future millionaires and job creators in the digital economy, Governor Sakaja stated during the opening ceremony.

The initiative has been met with enthusiasm from the tech community and youth groups. The Nairobi Innovation Week consortium has pledged to partner with the hub to identify and nurture high-potential startups. This is exactly the kind of infrastructure we need to bridge the digital divide. By locating this hub in Jericho, the county is ensuring that talent from all parts of Nairobi, not just the affluent Westlands, gets a chance to thrive, commented a representative from iHub Nairobi. The first cohort of 100 aspiring entrepreneurs has already been selected to commence training, with a focus on ventures in e-commerce, fintech, and creative media.

The long-term vision for the Jericho Incubation Hub is to establish it as a leading innovation center in East Africa, capable of producing scalable tech startups that solve local challenges. The county government has committed to establishing similar hubs in other sub-counties, creating a network of innovation across Nairobi. Our goal is to make Nairobi a globally competitive tech city, and that journey begins by nurturing homegrown talent right here in our neighborhoods. This hub is the first of many, the Governor affirmed, signaling a sustained commitment to building a robust digital economy from the grassroots level.
