On April 6, 2025, Nairobi County unveiled its Business Digital Transformation Program through the Innovation and Digital Economy (IDE) Sector. The launch took place during a strategic workshop that brought together the county’s three key digital sub-sectors: Digital Economy and Startups, ICT Infrastructure, and Smart Nairobi. The initiative aligns with Governor Johnson Sakaja’s manifesto, setting a unified path for innovation-led growth and reinforcing Nairobi’s ambition to become East Africa’s digital capital.
The program focuses on accelerating digital transformation for businesses by promoting the adoption of e-commerce platforms, digital payments, cloud services, and smart technologies. County officials emphasized that the initiative will help enterprises—especially SMEs—improve efficiency, reduce costs, and expand their market reach. By embedding digital tools into everyday operations, Nairobi aims to strengthen competitiveness and attract both local and international investors.
Stakeholders welcomed the program, noting that it addresses critical challenges such as limited access to digital infrastructure, low digital literacy, and fragmented innovation ecosystems. Business leaders highlighted that the program provides a framework for startups to scale, while policymakers stressed its role in fostering inclusive growth. The county also emphasized the importance of professionalism and results-oriented implementation, ensuring that the program delivers tangible benefits for entrepreneurs and citizens alike.
Looking ahead, Nairobi County plans to integrate the Business Digital Transformation Program with broader initiatives such as the EU–Kenya Business Forum (May 2025) and the Nation Digital Summit (Feb 19–21, 2025). These platforms will provide opportunities for Nairobi businesses to showcase innovations, access global networks, and secure investment. If sustained, the program could transform Nairobi into a model of digital readiness, driving economic growth and reinforcing its role as a leading smart city in Africa.
