County Commissioner Warns Kwale Residents Against Fraudsters
Kwale County Commissioner Gideon Othino has issued a stern warning to residents to be vigilant against a rising tide of fraudsters and con artists operating in the region. The CC alerted the public about sophisticated scams designed to swindle people out of their money and property through false promises and deceptive schemes. He emphasized that these criminals often target the most vulnerable in society, including the elderly and those in desperate financial situations.

Common tactics cited by the commissioner include fake employment opportunities, fraudulent land sales, and get-rich-quick schemes that promise high returns on non-existent investments. In some instances, the fraudsters impersonate government officials or well-known businesspeople to gain their victims’ trust. The CC urged residents to thoroughly verify the authenticity of any offer that seems too good to be true and to consult with relevant government offices before parting with any money.

The National Government Administration Officers (NGAO) have been directed to work with community elders and religious leaders to raise public awareness about these scams. The police are also actively pursuing several leads to apprehend the most notorious fraudsters. Commissioner Othino assured the public that reporting such crimes is safe and confidential, and he encouraged anyone who has been targeted to come forward to help bring the perpetrators to justice.
