Cherargei Condemns Tuju Over Fake Disappearance

Nandi Senator Samson Cherargei has condemned former Cabinet Secretary Raphael Tuju over what he described as a fabricated disappearance incident.

He stated that the occurrence created unwarranted panic nationwide and undermined public confidence in legitimate security matters.

During an interview with KTN Prime, Senator Cherargei expressed his personal alarm upon learning about Tuju’s supposed kidnapping, revealing that he immediately reached out to the Inspector General of Police.

“When I received information about Tuju’s abduction, I contacted IG Kanja and senior security officials to investigate. We were genuinely concerned, especially after witnessing his previous ordeal with Dari Properties Limited and the bank, which made this situation particularly disturbing,” he explained.

The Senator compared this incident to past occurrences, mentioning the cases of Diangui Kinyagia, who vanished for ten days in July 2025, and Juja Member of Parliament George Koimburi, highlighting what he characterized as an alarming and increasing trend of staged disappearances intended to garner public sympathy.

“This situation brings to mind Diangui Kinyagia’s 10-day disappearance in July 2025, as well as the case of Mheshimwa George Koimburi, the Juja parliamentary representative,” he noted.

Cherargei praised the Directorate of Criminal Investigations for their prompt action in recording Tuju’s statement, but went on to insist on a complete public apology.

“Cabinet Secretary Tuju should offer a sincere and unconditional public apology. Consider the widespread concern this caused across the country, only for him to reappear claiming he was hosted by a family in Kiambu,” he stated.

The Senator also cautioned that this pattern will likely intensify as Kenya approaches the general election period, calling upon the judiciary to adopt a resolute position.

“Political figures will undoubtedly orchestrate their own abductions to gain public sympathy. We must put an end to this deceptive practice of self-inflicted disappearances,” he warned.
