Bungoma Governor Kenneth Lusaka has announced that Sh800 million in funding from the World Bank will be used to upgrade the Bungoma and Kimilili municipalities. The funding aims to modernize urban infrastructure and promote balanced development across the county.
The amount will be split equally between the two municipalities, ensuring that both towns benefit from the upgrades. Governor Lusaka emphasized that the formation of new municipal boards for Bungoma and Kimilili was a key step in unlocking this funding.
He urged the new board members to prioritize effective service delivery and avoid political distractions, highlighting their responsibility to improve the quality of life for residents.
Newly appointed municipal board members include:
Bungoma: Paul Kamala, Wilkister Wafula, Job Munyasia, Dorcas Katiambo
Kimilili: Caroline Wanyonyi, Dennis Barasa, Samson Sichangi, Ziprine Wamalwa, Abigail Wafula
Additionally, Governor Lusaka announced plans to gazette Webuye and Chwele as new municipalities, a move expected to accelerate urban expansion and modernization of other towns in Bungoma County.
Ongoing infrastructure projects such as Chebukube, Chwele, Mateka, and Kamukunywa roads were also highlighted as part of broader efforts to improve the urban landscape.
Bungoma County Assembly Speaker Emmanuel Situma praised the careful vetting of qualified candidates, noting that their appointment is crucial for shaping policies that will guide the municipalities’ development.
This funding and ongoing projects mark a major step toward transforming Bungoma County’s urban infrastructure and driving regional growth.
