Mother-to-child transmission rate is 10%, above the recommended <5%.
Contributing Factors:
High rates of GBV in Mt. Elgon, Kimilili, and Tongaren.
Teen pregnancies in Kimilili, Mt. Elgon, and Kanduyi.
Poor adherence to ARVs and delayed healthcare-seeking behavior, especially among men.
Stigma around HIV.

Deputy Governor Jenipher Mbatiany and Health CEC Dr. Andrew Wamalwa urged residents to adopt safe sexual practices and support community health initiatives.
The county is implementing programs like the HIV Exposed Infants (HEI) graduation to celebrate milestones and encourage adherence to treatment.
