Uasin Gishu Budget 2025/26 Focuses on Development, No New Taxes
Uasin Gishu County, June 20, 2025
Governor Jonathan Bii’s administration has unveiled a Sh10.1 billion budget for the 2025/26 fiscal year, assuring residents there will be no new taxes or increased charges.
Finance executive Micah Rogony explained that the budget acts as a midterm review of the administration, assessing performance, addressing challenges, and planning for the future. Key points include:
Own-source revenue performance: Last year, the county collected over Sh1.4 billion, with Sh1 billion already collected this year, though a cumulative Sh3 billion remains uncollected.
Recurrent expenditure: About 50% of the budget is allocated to salaries and emoluments for the county’s 5,000-strong workforce.
Development priorities: Increased funding is planned for roads, agriculture, and youth empowerment, including the Fanikisha Initiative to support youth entrepreneurship.
Agriculture support: Continuation of the diversification program, including distribution of coffee seedlings to farmers.
Revenue management improvements: New systems are in place to enhance collection and resident compliance.
The budget aligns with Governor Bii’s Nguzo Kumi (Ten-Point) development agenda, prioritising accelerated project implementation while ensuring fiscal stability without burdening residents with additional levies.
