Bomet CC Raises Alarm Over Rising Defilement Cases
The Bomet County Commissioner, Dr. Ahmed Omar, has raised a serious alarm over a sharp increase in defilement cases being reported across the county. Dr. Omar expressed deep concern that the vice is becoming rampant, with many victims being young girls, often targeted by close relatives or neighbors. He described the trend as not only a criminal issue but a moral crisis that threatens the very fabric of the society.

The Commissioner revealed that security and children’s protection agencies have recorded a worrying number of incidents, with many cases going unreported due to stigma and intimidation. He issued a stern warning to perpetrators, stating that the government will pursue and prosecute them to the fullest extent of the law. Defilement is a serious felony that carries a heavy penalty, and we will ensure that those found guilty face the consequences, Dr. Omar stated.

In response, a multi-agency team has been activated to intensify public awareness campaigns on children’s rights and the legal implications of defilement. The National Government Administration Officers (NGAO) have been directed to work closely with village elders, religious leaders, and school management boards to identify and report suspected cases. Parents and guardians have also been urged to be more vigilant and to create a safe environment for children to report any form of abuse.
