Baringo Residents Want Sh10bn Special Kitty for Security, Roads
Residents and local leaders in Baringo County are petitioning the national government to establish a special Sh10 billion fund dedicated to addressing the twin challenges of insecurity and poor road infrastructure. The appeal was made during a public forum where community members argued that a massive injection of funds is required to build permanent security roads and install essential amenities in the region’s remote and conflict-prone areas.

The proponents of the kitty state that the existing security operations, while beneficial, are not sustainable without complementary infrastructure. They propose that the funds be used to tarmac key roads to facilitate the rapid deployment of security forces, construct additional administrative and police posts, and deploy modern surveillance technology. This, they believe, would permanently dislodge bandits from their hideouts and open up the region for development.

The petition has been forwarded to the relevant national government departments for consideration. Leaders argue that the investment is not only a security imperative but also an economic one, as it would unlock the agricultural and tourism potential of the county. The national government has previously acknowledged the unique challenges of the North Rift region, and this request for a special fund is seen as a test of its commitment to a long-term solution beyond military operations.
