Azimio la Umoja coalition MPs staged a dramatic walkout moments before President William Ruto rose to deliver his first State of the Nation Address to a joint sitting of Parliament. The opposition legislators, led by Minority Leader Opiyo Wandayi, cited the government’s failure to address the high cost of living and its disregard for bipartisan dialogue as reasons for their protest. The walkout left a visibly divided House, with Kenya Kwanza MPs remaining to applaud the President’s speech which focused on his administration’s economic achievements.
