Archbishop urges unity amid drought crisis

Nyeri Archbishop Anthony Muheria has urged government and political leaders to cease politicizing drought and concentrate on immediate interventions to support affected communities.

Addressing residents in Matanya, Laikipia County during the ongoing dry spell affecting several regions, the Archbishop cautioned that transforming a humanitarian crisis into a political competition only intensifies the hardship faced by vulnerable households.

He stated the crisis should not become a matter of political finger-pointing and appealed to leaders from various political factions to transcend partisan concerns and unite in addressing the situation.

The Archbishop stressed that drought is not a matter of political competition but about preserving lives and securing livelihoods. The Catholic Church, he noted, continues to partner with humanitarian organizations in providing relief aid to impacted communities.

His comments follow recent exchanges of accusations among leaders regarding response strategies and resource distribution.

The extended drought continues to devastate various parts of the country, leaving thousands of families requiring food, water and healthcare support.
