Additional Security Facilities Set Up to Boost Safety in Lamu
The government has established additional security facilities in Lamu County in a strategic move to boost safety and counter the threat of Al-Shabaab militants. The new facilities include forward operating bases and police posts in remote and high-risk areas that have previously been vulnerable to attacks. This expansion is designed to create a permanent security presence and reduce response times to security incidents.

According to the Lamu County Commissioner, the new bases will host multi-agency teams comprising the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF), the National Police Service, and the Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS). Their collective presence is expected to deny militants freedom of movement and safe havens, particularly in the vast Boni Forest and along the coastline. The initiative is part of the broader Linda Boni operation.

Local leaders and residents have welcomed the development, expressing hope that it will bring an end to the sporadic attacks that have disrupted travel, trade, and fishing activities. The government has reiterated its commitment to securing the county, which is a vital tourism and economic hub, and urged the public to continue cooperating with security agencies by sharing timely intelligence.
