Murkomen: Cattle Theft Along Kisumu-Kericho Border Contained
Transport Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen has declared that the rampant cattle rustling along the volatile Kisumu-Kericho border has been successfully contained. The CS credited a sustained and collaborative security operation between the two counties for the breakthrough, which has restored calm to an area previously plagued by cross-border livestock raids and retaliatory attacks. He stated that the multi-agency team has degraded the criminal networks responsible for the thefts.

According to the CS, the operation involved heightened patrols, the setting up of strategic security roadblocks, and intensive community policing that led to the recovery of stolen livestock and the arrest of key suspects. The improved security situation has allowed for the resumption of normal activities, including trade and farming, in the border villages. Murkomen emphasized that the government’s focus is now on sustaining the peace gains and fostering reconciliation between the communities.

While announcing that the situation is under control, the CS warned that security agencies remain on high alert to prevent any resurgence of the criminal activity. He called on local leaders from both sides to continue preaching peace and coexistence. The declaration marks a significant achievement in resolving a long-standing conflict that has often led to loss of life and property, and it paves the way for enhanced socio-economic cooperation between Kisumu and Kericho counties
