KNATCOM Champions STEM Innovation Through Windows to STEM Initiative

by KenyaPolls

The Kenya National Commission for UNESCO (KNATCOM), through its Natural Sciences Programme, is leading the ambitious Windows to STEM initiative, designed to transform STEM education across the country. In collaboration with the Ministry of Education (MOE), UNESCO, and BOE Technology Group Co., Ltd., KNATCOM is equipping teachers with advanced skills in artificial intelligence, robotics, and 3D printing. The initiative reflects KNATCOM’s commitment to fostering science, innovation, and sustainable development, ensuring that Kenyan students are prepared for a rapidly evolving technological landscape.

A pilot workshop held on 30–31 August 2025 at CEMASTEA in Karen, Nairobi, marked a key milestone for the initiative. Ten Junior Secondary School teachers participated in intensive, hands-on training sessions aimed at integrating emerging technologies into classroom instruction. BOE Technology supported the workshop with donations of 3D printers, robotic kits, and interactive display screens, providing educators with tools to deliver dynamic, practical STEM learning experiences. Dr. George Eshiamwata, Ag. Director of the Natural Sciences Programme, emphasized the transformative power of such partnerships, while Dr. James Njogu, Ag. Secretary-General/CEO of KNATCOM, highlighted the initiative’s role in inspiring Africa’s next generation of innovators and problem-solvers.

The Windows to STEM initiative also underscores KNATCOM’s broader commitment to bridging the digital divide and advancing the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals, particularly SDG 4 on Quality Education and SDG 9 on Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure. By fostering collaboration between educational institutions, government agencies, and technology partners, the programme demonstrates how coordinated efforts can create equitable and future-ready learning opportunities for students across Kenya. With continued expansion, KNATCOM aims to ensure that more schools benefit from innovative STEM education, cultivating a skilled and technologically proficient generation poised to drive national and regional development.
