Uasin Gishu Rolls Out Capacity Building for ECDE Amid Rising Enrollment
The Uasin Gishu County Government has launched a capacity-building initiative for Early Childhood Development and Education (ECDE) coordinators and teachers, in response to increasing enrollment of over 46,000 learners.
The program, in partnership with the Education Empowerment for Rural and Urban Slums Initiative (EERUi), aims to:
Equip coordinators with leadership and supervisory skills
Train teachers in modern methods such as positive discipline and play-based learning
Establish a network of master trainers who cascade skills to all ECDE teachers and caregivers
Governor Jonathan Bii’s administration hosted the first training forum, signaling a long-term commitment to improving ECDE quality.
County Director of Education, Peter Ruto, emphasized the critical role of coordinators in mentoring teachers, while EERUi CEO Simon Wamu highlighted that the initiative professionalizes ECDE and nurtures creativity in learners.
The three-year partnership will focus on ongoing staff development, modern teaching techniques, and advocacy for increased resources to strengthen the sector.
