Thousands of P1 Teachers Selected for Professional Upgrade Under World Bank‑Funded Programme

by KenyaPolls

A total of 38,849 primary school (P1) teachers from across Kenya have been selected to join a fully funded upgrading programme under the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) and backed by the World Bank. The initiative aims to equip long-serving classroom teachers with enhanced qualifications to meet the demands of the evolving Competency-Based Education (CBE) system. For many teachers, the upgrade — from P1 certificate to diploma level — represents a long-awaited opportunity for career growth, improved pay and recognition. According to the lead ministry, the programme will strengthen teacher capacity nationwide, especially in Junior Secondary Schools, and ensure quality education delivery under CBE.
