In a major effort to support academic success among disadvantaged learners, hundreds of students across Nairobi have received free revision books through a county-backed initiative launched in 2025. The program, spearheaded by Brian’s Community Outreach Foundation (BRICO) in partnership with the Nairobi City County Government, targets pupils in informal settlements who face challenges accessing quality learning materials. The distribution aims to bridge the resource gap and improve performance, especially during periods of educational disruption.
The initiative gained momentum amid the ongoing teachers’ strike earlier in the year, which left many students without structured classroom instruction. BRICO founder Brian Oduor emphasized the urgency of the program, noting that students can’t revise effectively, so we decided to step in and offer support. The revision books include KCSE past papers, CBC-aligned notes, and topical questions tailored for Junior Secondary and Form 1–4 learners. Materials were sourced from platforms like, ensuring alignment with national curriculum standards. The Nairobi City County’s 2025–2026 budget also earmarked funds for educational support programs, reinforcing the county’s commitment to inclusive learning.
The impact has been immediate and encouraging. Teachers report improved engagement among students who previously lacked access to revision materials, while parents have expressed gratitude for the support. This program has restored hope for many families, said a parent in Mathare. Looking ahead, BRICO plans to expand the initiative to other counties and integrate mentorship sessions alongside book distribution. With continued support from county officials and education stakeholders, the program is poised to become a model for grassroots academic empowerment across Kenya.
