Plan Underway to Roll Out Value‑Based Education Nationwide by 2026

by KenyaPolls

The Kenya Institute of Curriculum Development (KICD), in partnership with Zizi Afrique Foundation (ZAF) and other stakeholders, has announced plans to expand a pilot programme of Value-Based Education (VbE) to all schools nationwide by 2026. The initiative — which began with 79 institutions across eight regions — seeks to instill life values, ethics, and civic responsibility alongside academic learning. According to KICD’s Senior Deputy Director Jacqueline Onyango, VbE was conceived as part of CBE’s holistic approach to character formation, and intends to involve not just students but also teachers, non‑teaching staff, parents and communities. Advocates say this could reinforce integrity, social cohesion, and responsible citizenship — essential components for Kenya’s social and economic development.
