Kenya’s commitment to expanding technical education is evident in its dramatic growth in Technical Training Colleges (TTCs). From just 13 institutions over 15 years ago, the nation now boasts 254 TTCs, significantly increasing access to technical and vocational education. Enrollment in these institutions has surged from 308,000 to 700,000 over the past three years, reflecting both heightened interest and strategic investment in practical skills development. Institutions such as Mathenge Technical Training Institute are playing a key role in equipping students with hands-on experience, ensuring that they are not only academically competent but also capable of applying knowledge in practical settings.
President Ruto’s vision for STEM education aligns with Kenya’s broader goal of fostering innovation, economic growth, and sustainable development. By prioritizing policies and funding that enhance curricula, teaching capacity, and technical infrastructure, the government is laying the foundation for a generation of problem-solvers and innovators.
